Great Service, Interesting Menu, Upscale Dinning. I actually came here today for dinner. We went around 6:30pm on a Saturday without a reservation. The place had only a few people inside and we were seated promptly. The service was amazing. Our water was refilled continuously and when I accidentally dropped my knife, two people came to replace it right away without me having to flag anyone down. We were first given a complementary soup dish. The dishes on the menu are interesting, not traditional. My friend ordered the skate, I ordered the squib. We also shared an appetizer which was a mixture of pasta, seafood and an egg on top. The dishes tasted good, but definitely not the usual things use see on menus. the desserts left something to be desired. When we asked for the check we were given complementary chocolates. A very nice experience. We left around 8:30pm and the place was packed.

Terrific. Amazing food. Great ambience. No vegetarian entrees on the menu, but Saul will make you something great if you just say what vegetables you like.

Solid High-End Brooklyn Dining. Came here a while ago for an anniversary with my girlfriend. Loved the intimacy of the small, exposed-brick dining room. The food was very good, albeit overpriced (as was the wine). The server was very gracious and friendly. We noticed that the patrons skewed to the older set, though this was a weeknight. DOesn't get a lot of buzz, but that's a good thing.

very average for the price. I would not rate it below average , if this restaurant was not overpriced.

The food is over done, and out of touch with "reality good food". In addition, the wine list is as well overpriced.

The server was very nice...but one star Michelin ???

Phenomenal. Our friends in Brooklyn had been talking about this place for a while, and we finally went last night. We had an amazing dinner that makes me unable to comprehend some of the negative reviews. The foie gras absolutely incredible, and the lamb special was excellent. While its true that the portions were relatively small, that, to me, is to be exepcted for food this rich. In short, we loved it and highly recommend it, enjoying it even more than Le Cirque.

Michelin Star?. We went with high expecations knowing that it's a Michelin rated restaurant. The service is unpolished and inconsistent from what one might expect. For example, our server was unfriendly and we could see the wait staff drinking and eating within the dining room which reflects in an unprofessional way on the dining area and the experience in general. The food was generally very good; tasty, portions fair, but fell short with a cod fish entree that was bland. Overall, decent food but does not merit a repeat visit for us.

Rushed and unwelcoming service. We went to Saul with high expectations for a lovely evening and a fine meal. Unfortunately what we got was good food, but a very unpleasant experience. As other reviewers noted, the portions were small but the food was well prepared and presented. The problem was with the service, which was less than gracious. When the price of dinner for four is over $500.00 with wine and tip, one would hope that the service would be hospitable and warm. Instead, we felt rushed- our waiter gave us almost no time to peruse the menu and enjoy our bottle of champagne, we were served almost immediately and our plates were whisked away. In our opinion, a fine meal should certainly have good food, but the atmosphere needs to be warm, relaxed and convivial. NY has many restaurants with good food. The really good restaurants are the ones that combine good food and a sense of welcome and hospitality. We will not go back.

Tasty food, but the meals are extremely small. Just came from the dinner at Saul. I liked the taste of my food very much. However, consistently with some reviews below, found the dishes very small and left the place hungry. On the positive side, service was excellent. The prices - well, the check was $100 for two very small dinners without wine.

exacting, delicious, unpretentious. fantastic.

third best thing was the service: attentive but not fussy, friendly but not overly. i came with family and we were taken care of but able to have the conversation we wanted without being held hostage by the meal.

second best thing was the decor- it's not extreme, no velvet or fish, just quiet and very pretty.

the best thing was the food. This is the real draw. everything we ate was delicious. five entrees, two starters, five desserts: no missteps. i don't know if there's a dud on the menu. my parents, who don't like 'weird food' asked a few questions, were answered respectfully, and what they got was perfect. my foodie boyfriend ordered something he'd never had before and now he wants it everywhere. my squab is in my top 20. the tastes are layered and balanced. Portions are enough but not overly.

i've paid twice this for food for half the quality.

worst birthday ever at Saul. I had the most unpleasant experience I can ever recall having? anywhere? at Saul in Brooklyn on Saturday night. After having made a reservation weeks ago for six people to celebrate my birthday, a seventh person was added to our party at the last minute. (A friend?s husband whose work suddenly freed him up.) And rather than squeeze another chair in at our table for six, we were summarily turned away.

I have no experience whatsoever in the restaurant business, but I have an idea of the amount of logistical juggling must take place in such an operation. I appreciate that. However, no matter how unforgiving the seating (the place was half empty when we arrived), I was shocked that given the choice between pulling up an extra chair or not, the manager chose to turn me away, leave me to wander down Smith Street ON MY BIRTHDAY with six of my friends in search of last minute accommodation, upset, disappointed, and very near tearful, and leave all of us with an astoundingly negative impression of Saul. I can't imagine anything would be worth that for a restaurant.

Even one of their own diners who was outside having a cigarette was more sympathetic than any one of Saul?s staff; she gave me a sad "happy birthday" as she went back inside to finish her meal. She seemed as stunned as we were at our poor reception. Personally, my jaw still drops when I think of how the situation was managed.

One last note: whoever did take my reservation originally was extremely nice. Maybe because we were a party of six, he made a point of asking "Is this a special occasion?" I imagined this implied we would have a special evening; unfortunately it only made the terrible treatment on Saturday sting that much more. Worst. Birthday. Ever.

I can recommend any number of outstanding restaurants in Brooklyn that will be happy to serve you graciously. Saul is not one of them.
