“The restaurant offers a very comfortable atmosphere, a "mom and pop" kind of feeling, though in this case it's more like "mother and daughter" both of whom are very nice and welcoming.”
“Get it served with rice and vegetables (yummy), some house red wine, nice big plate of tzatziki, saganaki and you'll be in heaven.”
“The food is fresh and delicious.”
“We highly recommend the saganaki, gyro on pita, and oven baked lemon potatoes though we plan to sample a lot more of the menu in the very near future.”
“However, this great restaurant outdoes them all.”
“The waitresses are very pleasant and accomodating.”
“We've eaten in the so-called best Greek restaurants in Astoria, expensive places in Manhattan, and the real deal in Greece.”
HIghly recommended!!. What a wonderful place! We've eaten in the so-called best Greek restaurants in Astoria, expensive places in Manhattan, and the real deal in Greece. However, this great restaurant outdoes them all. The food is fresh and delicious. The portions are filling and the prices are unbeatable. The restaurant offers a very comfortable atmosphere, a "mom and pop" kind of feeling, though in this case it's more like "mother and daughter" both of whom are very nice and welcoming. We highly recommend the saganaki, gyro on pita, and oven baked lemon potatoes though we plan to sample a lot more of the menu in the very near future. Service is great as well.
A Diamond in the Rough.. Where do I begin with this place? To be honest, I was first a little concerned with the pricing. How tasty can the food be, I wondered, at such unbelievably low prices. I would soon found out that you don't have to empty the contents of your wallet to enjoy a fantastic and incredibly authentic meal. Plaka Taverna is by far on the finest places to dine for Greek Cuisine. I immediately fell in love with their menu and I have been a loyal patron for the last few months. From their appetizers to their entrees, nothing failed to impress my palette. And being of Greek descent, I am more than familiar with what authenticity tastes lie and what cheap imitations taste like. I wanted to share my experiences and praises with all of you out there to visit this place as soon as possible. The food is too enjoyable to describe and the prices are so low it should be considered a sin.
The Best Gyros in NY. Being Greek, through the years I have pretty much checked out most of the Greek food spots through out NY, Brooklyn and Queens . I can honestly say that no one can make a gyro like this place does. I don't know how they season the meat, but it is by far the tastiest you will ever eat. My dad took me to Plaka back in the 80's and I am still going back. My husband and friends love the food as well. I would bet anyone to find a tastier gyro!!!
Little Jewel. I've been going to this place since '84 or '85. They have by far the best gyro platter in the city--just make sure to go there when it's not busy so that the gyro is nice and crispy. Get it served with rice and vegetables (yummy), some house red wine, nice big plate of tzatziki, saganaki and you'll be in heaven. Place looks like a "small hole in a wall," but is cozy and friendly. The waitresses are very pleasant and accomodating. When they play greek music and a couple of old greek guys sit by the door sipping their wine and eating olives you'll know why I've been going there religiously for years.
