Editorial Review for Brooklyn Academy of Music--Harvey Theater – by Citysearch Staff
In Short
Renamed in honor of BAM founder Harvey Lichtenstein, this beautiful old movie house was restored in 1987. With exposed brick and distressed pillars, the new and improved theater retains a stripped-down aesthetic. The Harvey, as the space is affectionately called, generally attracts edgier fare, in part because there's fewer seats to sell. The space works especially well for productions by environmentally aware troupes like Eiko Koma and Anne Bogart's SITI.

Okay, maybe that's being a bit superlative. But the theatre is stunning, the sightlines are impeccable, and when directors take advantage of the look and feel of the theater, the results are simply breathtaking.
